Weekend Wrap-Up Dec. 19
This Saturday night the Atom AE Cyclones defeated Wingham at home in their only game of the weekend.

After a strong effort in Kincardine that did not result in a win, the Cyclones looked to bring the same effort against third place Wingham.  Right from the drop of the puck it was evident that the Cyclones were ready to play.  Both centers Coehlo and Leroux were battling hard in both ends while wingers Terpstra, Werth, Matheson, Kuepfer, Balzer, and Evans kept Wingham hemmed in their own end for most of the period.  As a result, the Cyclones generated a number of scoring chances, however just like previous games, they were unable to capitalize.

Heading into the second period the team continued to play well.  Defense pairs Alexander and Schmidt along with Frey and Wilken helped the forwards maintain offensive pressure by holding the line.  They were also able to generate scoring opportunities of their own with a few rushes and shots from the point.  However, the team was once again unable to solve the Wingham goalie.

Before the beginning of the third, the Cyclones discussed that even though they weren’t getting any good bounces, if they continued to play well good things would happen.  That proved to be true early in the period, as the Cyclones finally broke through just under fifty seconds in.  Wingham would not go away quietly though, scoring a goal of their own just four minutes later to tie the game.  At this point it would have been easy for the Cyclones play for the tie, but the team continued to push to win the game.  After a few key saves by goalie Dietrich, the offense opened up.  The team would score four goals by four different players in four minutes of play to take a commanding lead.  Wingham added another goal of their own but Listowel would take the game by a final score of 5-2.

Congratulations to the whole team, as no individual player was given the player of the game jacket.  This victory was truly a team effort, as all 13 players played with hustle and heart.  The team will take some time off for Christmas, and will return Dec. 29 at home versus Saugeen Shores followed by a rematch with Kincardine at home on Jan. 2.
