Novice Red Dominates Drayton Orange For Second Straight Win
Listowel Novice LL Red improved to 2-0 on the season with an
8-1 win over Drayton Orange, powered largely in part by a four-goal performance
from Grayson Matheson.
The speedy center potted three goals in the second period for the natural hat trick, then capped the scoring in the third as he took home Player of the Game honours.
Spencer Henhoeffer put Red on the board in the first period for the early lead. Two minutes later, Drayton’s Seryna Hessels tied the contest before the two teams headed into the first intermission with a goal a piece.
Midway through the middle frame, Listowel jumped back out in front as Kole Schiestel’s shot off the post landed on the stick of Noah Hiemstra, who found the bottom-right corner a 2-1 lead.
That’s when Matheson went off for three straight goals over a 4 minute span, putting Red in full control with a 5-1 advantage after two periods.
Listowel’s offensive attack continued in the third, as Henhoeffer once again found the back of the net. Nehemiah Dyck added another as he tallied from the left-wing wall, which was then followed up Matheson’s fourth of the afternoon.
