Red Grounds Falcons For 10th Win
Listowel Novice LL Red handed the Hanover Falcons their second loss of the season, taking Saturday’s contest at P&H Centre by a score of 4-2.

The run-and-gun game came down to the goaltenders.  The victory was eventually earned by Noah Szasz, who shut down several breakaway attempts en route to his 10th W and Red’s Player of the Game honours.

The Falcons opened the scoring early in the first period before Listowel tied the game with a little over two minutes left in the frame.  Some determined corner work by Knox Harrison and Spencer Henhoeffer led to a tally in front by Ruby Hillier.

However, the tie was short lived as Hanover scored on the next shift and took a 2-1 lead into the intermission.

Red scored twice quickly in the middle frame to grab a 3-2 lead.  Kole Shiestel banked in a shot off a Hanover defender and, less than a minute later, Henhoeffer jammed in a rebound for Red’s first advantage of the day.

Listowel carried the play for most of the final period. The line of Noah Hiemstra, Nehemiah Dyck and Shielstel kept the action in the Falcon’s end for long stretches at a time.  Meanwhile, the D-pairings of Brynn Berfelz, Grayson Matheson, Warner Hurst and Oliver Hershey kept up with the speed of the Hanover forwards and pushed play back the other way for the majority of the final 10 minutes.

Harrison, who was called to duty to fill in for Finn Molenhuis (short-term IR), capped the scoring with just over a minute left in regulations, with assists from Berfelz and Matheson.

Red will take to the ice for several more practices over the next six days before a soiree with the South Bruce Blades in Mildmay next Saturday at 11am.
