Cycs open up in Muskoka with a 8-0 win over St. Catherines
The U13 Rep Cyclones travelled to cottage country to compete in the Dan Bell Memorial Tournament and opened with a convincing 8-0 win over the St. Catherines Falcons.

Coleson Beirnes opened up the scoring early in the first period with a blistering shot that found the bottom right corner of the net after a sweet feed from Zack Brooks.  Minutes later Tyse Hayter finished a cycle and ripped a wrist shot top corner set up by Emerson Smith.  Still in the first period, Patrick Magee put on a stick handling display on route to a highlight reel goal, the play started by Rory Magee who chipped the puck in from the point to his twin brother.  On the same shift P Magee would notch his second tally of the game when he tipped a shot from Smith set up by Hudson Ireland to close the period at 4-0.

The second frame saw more aggressive forechecking by the Cyclones which unfortunately led to a few penalties for Listowel.  This didn't faze the Cycs as they killed off a 5 on 3 and eventually added a short handed goal by Smith after being sprung on a breakaway by Jade Campbell.  With a minute left in the period Hayter would register his second snipe of the night after Brooks found him alone in the slot.

The third saw the Cycs take multiple trips to the sin bin, all of which they killed off eventually going perfect on the penalty kill.  With 5 minutes left in the game Smith added his second of the net as he blew by the defenders and wired a wrister home.  Minutes later Smith would complete the hat trick on a nice pass from Cole Parsons.  With a 8-0 lead the Cycs continued to push wanting to ensure they preserved the shut out for their tender Hunter Donegan. The Cycs netminder wasn't tested much in this contest but did come up big when he was needed on route to his first donut of the season.

Although they didn't hit the scoresheet, the defensive pair of Waide Beirnes and Grayson Matheson were great all night holding the offensive blue line and taking away scoring chances all night long.

The boys will need to continue their solid play on Saturday as they play Oro at 1pm in Gravenhurst and then Ajax Pickering at 7pm in Bracebrige.
