U13 Reps tie Tornados and will play in the semi finals
It wasn't pretty but the Listowel Cyclones U13 Reps held on for a tie vs Tillsonburg in the final game of the round robin and will play Mitchell in the SS semi final. After playing most of the first period with no scoring the Cycs would strike first on a solo effort from Tyse Hayter. A few shifts into the 2nd Hudson Ireland would bang in a rebound off an Emerson Smith shot. Eleven seconds later Ireland would return the favor setting up Smith for a rocket of a shot top shelf to give the Cycs a 3-0 lead. Listowel would take their foot of the gas and give up the next three goals heading to the break tied 3-3.
The third would start well as Coleson Beirnes would break the tie unassisted followed by Smith again a few minutes later coming out of the corner and going bar down to pad the lead at 5-3. After 3 losses in the tournament so far, Tillsonburg was not going to go down easy and would again score two quick goals tying the game at 5. Needing at least a tie and some help from Kincardine in the final game vs Mid Huron, the Cycs would need to bear down with two minutes left and get out with at least the single point. It wouldn't be easy as with just over a minute left the Cyclones were assessed two minor penalties on the same play to set up a 5 on 3 to finish the game. It was time to lean on their big captain Jade Campbell and he didn't disappoint staying on the rest of the way and playing a huge part in killing the final minute to preserve the tie.
After a 3 point performance, Emerson Smith picked up player of the game honors.
With a Mid Huron loss the boys will head to the semi final in a rematch with the Mitchell Meteors tomorrow morning at 9am in Tiverton.
