Reps Lead Mitchell 5 point to 3
Four games into the OMHA series, the Reps are leading Mitchell 5 points to 3 points. With a 5-2 game #1 win in Listowel, and a 4-3 game #2 loss in Mitchell, the teams got back into action after an eleven day lay-off for exams.
Game #3 was a scrambly / scrappy affair in Listowel, ending in a 1-1 draw. There were many hard hits and obstruction penalties throughout the game, with neither team wanting to back down. Cory Wilson scored the lone goal for the Cyclones, finishing off a passing play with Zack MacPhee & Andrew Gooding.
Jesse Nethercott came up big many times in the net for the Reps, as did the Mitchell goalie.
Game #4 was played in Mitchell on Feb-6th, which saw the Reps skate to a confident 4-1 win.
The line of Luke Binning, Matt McCracken & Conner Johnston dominated the Mitchell squad, accounting for all four goals, with Binning collecting a hat trick. The line of Joel Hartung, Alex Balthes & Jacob Askins provided a solid effort throughout the game, drawing penalties from their hard work & killing off Mitchell power plays. Mitch Smith collected the win in net, making second period break-away save that helped spur the team to take over the game and score 3 second period goals.
The coaching staff is very pleased with the defensive play of the forwards and defence, only allowing single markers, in the last two games. The defensive group of: Mike McMurran, Clark Askins, Justin Miller, Cody Matheson & Kyle Sippel have been providing solid efforts, with good decision making.
Game #5 is Sunday, Feb-12th @ 8:30pm in Listowel. With game #6 in Mitchell on Feb-13th, if necessary.
