Schomberg Red And White Tournament
The Pee Wee Rep team travelled to Schomberg to compete in the Red and White Tournament.

Friday night Listowel won their first game 5-2 versus the Stirling Blues.  After checking into the hotel, the boys enjoyed some well-deserved free time.  Parents, players, and siblings were treated to supper, courtesy of the coaching staff.

Saturday at 11:30 the boys went toe-toe with the Orangeville Flyers.  Fourteen seconds into the game, Listowel scored the first of 11 goals, and handily beat the Flyers 11-0.

Thanks to Mrs. Town for organizing a night out of supper and entertainment for the kids.  Mike all of the 1st-year parents were very thankful for you bringing enough homemade pickles so they would not feel left out of the group.  Nate did a great job to explain the Trowbridge technique on proper pickle extraction from a glass jar.

Game 3 on Sunday morning had Listowel playing the Mount Forest Rams.  The Rams record of 9-8-1 would in no way give any indication to how much of a task would lay ahead for the Cyclones.  Listowel out-shot their opponent 14-3 in the 1st.  The game progressed into a fairly physical match in the 2nd, until a spirited mom made sure the officials were well aware there should be no more pushing after the whistle.  The stellar plays by Listowel’s defence, JA, Nich, Nic, Cullen and Colin, along with some great back checking from the forwards, were able to keep Mount Forest from having absolutely no shots on net in the period.  Finally, with 5:53 left in the 3rd, Carter roofed one past the Ram’s net minder, and Chet got the insurance goal with a fine pass from Conner only 30 seconds later allowing Listowel to advance to the Championship game with a 2-0 win.

Millbrook Stars were the winners from the other division and they would play Listowel.  Millbrook’s ice schedule has seen them on the ice between 4 and 5 times a week since October, so you know they will not run out of legs in the 3rd period.  Jordan Deelstra found the energy and courage to play after having to miss the Mount Forest game because of feeling under the weather.  As to be expected, the game started as a bit of a chess match, but with 6:25 left in the 1st, Chet got the puck to Dustin’s stick and Dustin gave Listowel a 1-0 lead.  With time running out, Millbrook came screaming down and had a 2 on 1 break, and just as the play was to unfold in the Listowel end, the buzzer sounded to end the period.  Numerous chances by Conner, Ethan, and Daniel kept the Millbrook goalie on his toes throughout the 2nd period.  With 9:28 left, Keegan scored on a great pass from Taytt.  Then not a minute later, Carter put one in on a rebound from Cullen.  Millbrook finally snuck one in late in the 2nd to keep them in the game.  The 3rd period was full of intense action as Sam kept pushing forward on every shift, and Josh kept the rebounds to a minimum.  With 6:28 to go, Chet found Keegan and Keeg put in his 2nd of the game and that put Listowel up 4-1 and sealed the championship.

Congratulations to the team for your accomplishment and to Keegan being named MVP.
