Black Downed By Defenders
Listowel Novice LL Black was edged, 6-5, by the Drayton Defenders on Saturday.

The home side found itself in a 3-3 tie after one period, thanks to a pair of Zack Brooks goals and a snipe from Rory Magee - his first of two on the afternoon.

Drayton then took the second period with two goals, forcing Listowel to have to battle back in the final frame.

Black did just that, with Magee's second of the game and a wrister from Cole Parsons, but still found themselves down a goal as the Defenders added one of their own mid-period.

With goaltender Koen Martin on the bench for the final minute, Listowel made a final push but was unable to get the tying tally.

The defensive tandems of Warner Hurst, Oliver Hershey, Fiona Johnson and Brynn Berfelz did what they could to keep pucks in Drayton's end of the rink but were stung by a few quick breakouts.

Forwards Lucas Kuepfer, Kenton Heathers and Noah Hiemstra dug in when they could but were turned away whenever they came close to the Defenders' net.

The collective Black unit will need to refocus and rebound quickly as they've got a date with their closest rivals, Listowel White, next Tuesday at 7:30 pm.
