Black Puts Forth One Of Their Best Efforts
Listowel Novice LL Black took on one of the top teams in the league for a tune-up game before playoffs and nearly snatched a victory.

Black jumped out to an early lead against the Mitchell Meteors, scoring a pair of goals in the first few minutes of the contest.

Both came off the stick of Noah Hiemstra, but neither could have been achieved without the hard work of his linemates, Cole Parsons and Blake McTavish, who worked together to get the puck out of their own end and on their opponents' goal.

Mitchell tied the game in the second period but McTavish banged in a rebound to get Black back in front. Again, the tally was the result of several prior actions, as fellow forwards, Lucas Kuepfer, Zack Brooks and Fiona Johnson, dug deep to clear pucks in their own zone and aid the attack at the other end.

Goaltender Koen Martin was tested all game long and made many sparkling saves.

The three D of Warner Hurst, Oliver Hershey and Brynn Berfelz all did well to help their goalie, blocking shots and clearing rebounds over and over again.

Mitchell was not to be denied though and added a few late goals against Listowel's undermanned squad, eventually taking the contest by a 6-3 final score.

After a solid tournament and a good game against a very good team, Black will look to continue to build momentum into the playoffs, starting with a Friday night practice at 5:00 pm at the SKMC.
