Lots of Action for the Peewee AE as October Winds Up
Get comfortable; this is gonna be a long one!  With one home game and two away games during the last week of October, the PeeWee AEs wowed the crowd with some tricks, and treated their fans to an action packed week of hockey.

The first game of the week was at home against Saugeen Shores Storm Monday night.  The coaching staff, as well as the crowd, were impressed by the momentum of the team in the first two periods.  Head Coach, Steve Dunbar said, “...to see such a hard fought battle and the emotion the kids showed, there is lots to be excited about for the rest of the season.”
Saugeen Shores were first on the score sheet with a goal less than 40 seconds into the first.  But the Cyclones responded 4 minutes later with a beautiful play by Maddox and Smitty, allowing Smitty to fire one in, tying the score 1-1.  An amazing glove save by Lucas held the Storm at bay and the first period came to an end.
The second period saw the Cyclones coming on strong with lots of scoring chances and great work along the boards defensively by Johnny and Liam.  With 8:40 on the clock, Owen, after tenaciously battling to get the puck, found the mesh unassisted.  Maddox potted a short-handed rebound a few minutes later, giving the boys some breathing room with a score of 3-1.  But the Storm was moving in, and with 3:29 on the clock, they scored on our net; 3-2.
The Cyclones continued to fight hard against the Storm, with Bo settled in as defenceman, shutting down several attempts by the Storm to take control.  But Lucas stole the show with some fancy stick work, poke checking what could have been the tying goal.  With less than 2 minutes remaining, Jacob hammered one in (assisted by Owen) and the Cyclones were up 4-2.  Unfortunately, with only seconds on the clock, a fluke play allowed the Storm to close up the gap a little; period two ended with a score of 4-3.
After the flood, the momentum shifted, and despite good checking by Brayden and Matt, as well as persistent grinding at the boards by Nick, Kris and Justin, the Storm managed to score once at the beginning of the third, and once at the end.  The Storm would take the Cyclones 5-4.
The second game of the week was Wednesday night in Mitchell to meet their pre-season rivals, the Meteors.  These are two well-matched teams with a lot of talent between them.  However, on Wednesday night, the Meteors were out played and definitely out-shot by strong Cyclones offense.
The first period saw both teams fighting for control of the puck and each team taking a penalty thanks to their forceful style of play.  However, in spite of Cyclone chances generated by Seth and Justin, and thanks to Johnny and Matt working hard to hold the line, neither team managed to score.  The second period was very much the same as these two teams battled hard, trying to edge each other out to be the first on the score board. The Meteors, however, got better acquainted with the penalty box, taking 4 penalties to our 1.
Since the start of the season, Reesor. has impressed the crowd with his stick handling and skating.  While the Cyclones couldn’t make the many power plays in the second work for them, Brett’s persistence paid off at just the right time, thanks to the assist by Connor, putting the Cycs on the board first, 1-0.
Less than a minute later, the Meteors responded, getting what would be their only goal of the night, tying it up at the end of the first, 1-1.
More great defensive work and passing by Bo in the third kept the bulk of the play at the Meteor end, as well as many rushes and lots of scoring opportunities thanks to Smitty and Kris.  Finally with 1:36 on the clock, Seth hammered one in thanks to a great pass from Nick.  The Cyclones were looking poised to win 2-1.
The Meteors are a tough team, and with a Cyclone and a Meteor in the penalty box, the game turned to 4 on 4.  The Cyclones were too strong, though, and the Meteors could not keep them out of their end and they pulled their goalie to make it 5 on 4.  With only 10 seconds remaining, Jacob rifled one past the Meteors (assisted by Maddox) on the empty net to end the game 3-1.
November 1st, the Cyclones travelled to Zurich to take on the Thunder with backup goalie, Myles, between the pipes. While the offensive pressure kept the play in the Thunder’s end for the bulk of the game, the puck wouldn’t always obey.
First period saw Bo and Connor, stepping into forward positions, and working hard to create some scoring chances early on. Despite steady pressure in Zurich’s end and good shots by the Cycs, they could not find the mesh.  A breakout play for Zurich had the crowd momentarily worried, but an awesome leg save by Myles shut down their best scoring opportunity in the first.  Shortly thereafter, Jacob ran end to end to score, putting the Cycs up 1-0.
The action moved briefly to the Cyclone’s end at the start of the second, but good d-work by Johnny and Matt prevented the Thunder from scoring.  Jacob found himself controlling the puck again in the middle of the second, scoring the Cyclones second goal.  Offensive pressure kept up with many scoring chances, including a couple while the Cycs were on the PK.  The period would end with the Cyclones up 2-0.
Early in the third period, Maddox shot one in on a scramble in front of the net giving the Cyclones a 3-0 lead.  The remainder of the period had the Cyclones on a power play, followed by a bad line change resulting in a “too many men” call and a 4 on 4.  The power play then shifted to the Thunder and, while they had a few chances, Myles would hold his ground until the penalty was over.  Near the end of the third, the Thunder caught a break and put one on the board in a scramble in front.
    Final score; 3-1.
The Listowel PeeweeAE Cyclones meet the Ripley Wolves this Monday night at the Ripley-Huron Community Centre Arena.
