Peewee AE Cyclones Slam Goderich Sailors
Monday night the Cyclones, building on the momentum of last Thursday’s game, added another stroke to the win column, soundly beating the Sailors 9-2 at home.

The Cycs were first on the scoreboard thanks to Justin (assisted by Owen) at 8:41 in the first, but the Sailors responded only seconds later to tie things up.  After some good chances by Kris and Nick, the Cycs managed to pull ahead thanks to a beauty goal by Freshie (assisted by Smitty and Mad Dog).  The first period came to an end with a score of 2-1 and it was looking like it could be a close game.

But the second period would see the Cycs gaining steam with Lucas making some awesome saves and two more goals added to the scoresheet by Freshie, completing the hat trick; assists added by Smitty and Mad Dog.  The second period ended 4-1.

Since the start of the season, the third period flood has proved problematic for the Cycs.  Whatever momentum they have gained appears hindered when that zamboni comes out; but that was not the case Monday night.

Only seconds into the third, team captain, Seth, put one top shelf, making it look effortless (thanks to the assist from Owen).  This set the tone and the boys came out stronger than ever.  Despite some penalty trouble, many shots were taken on Goderich’s net, including a breakaway by Bo, while defensive pressure by Brayden and Liam kept the Sailors from getting too close.  Matt and Connor continued to work on holding the line while Lucas closed the door on all but one attempt, allowing the Sailors to close the gap a little, 5-2.

The remainder of the game would see the boys communicating well, looking for each other and making some smart plays, including some great d-work by Johnny, who stuck to his man like glue, making life miserable for one Goderich forward. As a result, four more goals would be added to the scoreboard including two from Jacob, chasing a third period hattie (with an assist from Connor), one from Smitty (assisted by Freshie) and one from Mad Dog (assisted by Jacob).  Final: 9-2.

The Peewee AE Cycs will compete in the Clifford Peewee Tourney this Saturday.  Here’s hoping they can carry this energy forward!
