Peewee AEs Compete in 58th Annual Mitchell Tournament
The Peewee AEs spent the weekend competing in this longstanding Mitchell tournament with a mixed bag of results.

The first game Friday morning had the Cycs squaring off against the Lambeth Lancer AEs.  The Cyclones outplayed the Lancers, keeping the puck in their end for the bulk of the game, but  they were unable to score until 3:28 in the second when Maddox scored on a Smitty rebound.  The team continued to battle throughout the 3rd, but with 13 seconds on the clock and a Cyclone in the penalty box, the Lancers pulled their goalie and managed to tie up the score.  Final 1-1.  Congratulations to Star of the Game, Jacob for his hard work.

The next game was Friday afternoon against the Ayr Flames.  The Cyclones could not find their groove and were not looking a little sluggish.  Though the Flames would take this game, goals were scored by Nick (assisted by Smitty and Owen) and Jacob (assisted by Maddox).  Had it not been for Lucas standing on his head, the point spread might have been much greater. Final 5-2.  Lucas received the Star of the Game honor and it was well deserved.

The third game was Saturday morning and, thankfully, the Cycs had some sleep and were looking more like themselves and evenly matched against the Tavistock Titan AEs.  In spite of some scoring attempts by Connor and Seth, the score was tied at zero halfway into the second.  Finally, with a Cyclone in the penalty box, Johnny found Kris who fired one in top shelf.  Some tenacious battling by Liam and good clearing by Brayden helped keep the score 1-0 throughout the rest of the game.  Final 1-0.  For scoring the only goal, Kris was recognized with the Star of the Game honor.

The Cyclones made it to the semi final game in Mitchell Saturday evening where they would have a chance to redeem themselves against the Ayr Flames.  These two teams battled for control of the puck throughout the first period.  Finally, at 2:47, the Flames managed to get one in on a sneaky wraparound.  The second period would see many scoring chances by Kris, Connor, and an awesome breakaway by Nick, which resulted in a power play for the Cyclones.  Heading into the 3rd, many shots were taken, while some great battling in the corners by Matt for control of the puck and some sick glove saves by Lucas prevented the Flames from widening the gap.  With less than a minute left of play, Lucas was called to the bench and with 6 Cyclones on the ice, they would try desperately to tie the game up.  Unfortunately, it was not to be, and the game ended Flames 1; Cyclones 0.  Congratulations to the Star of the Game, Nick, who worked hard throughout the tournament to generate lots of chances.

They Peewee AEs will play the Elma Logan Wildcat Peewee Rep team in Monkton this Thursday night.
