Black Ends Tournament With Triple OT Thriller
Listowel Novice LL Black played an exciting brand of hockey in the Norwich tournament over the weekend.
The club started with a game against hosts Norwich on Saturday morning. Black allowed a few goals early but settled in the rest of the way, eventually falling in a 3-0 defeat.
The loss didn't weigh down the spirits of Listowel though, as they returned for a game versus Burford in the afternoon.
Black battled tough and earned a 3-1 win to even their record.
After a night of pizza, swimming and watching the Leafs game, Listowel was set for a Sunday skirmish with Southpoint. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie through the first intermission, before a Southpoint goal gave them a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame.
Black pressed hard throughout the third, and were finally rewarded with a goal in the final three minutes to knot things at 2-2.
Overtime then hit with a unique format. The two teams played two minutes of four-on-four but it wasn't enough to decide the contest.
Three-on-three followed for another two intense minutes, including a moment where it looked like Black had the win as they put a puck off the crossbar in the dying seconds.
The game came to an end in the two-on-two format as Southpoint finally squeaked in the winning goal.
It was a fun weekend for all involved to be sure, but now Black's focus returns to their playoff stretch.
The next challenge comes this Saturday with a 3:00 pm date in Clinton against the Ice Dogs.
