Cyclones Kick Off Campaign with Tight Contest
The Listowel U13-AE Cyclones took a late loss in their first game of the regular season on Wednesday.

The Cycs jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the first shift of the game as three players crashed the net to jam the puck in past the Shallow Lakes netminder. Liam Ough had the final touch in the scrum as Owen Alexander and Nehemiah Dyck were credited with assists.

In the second period, Listowel doubled its lead as Alexander slid a puck towards the front of the net and a diving poke by Dyck managed to trickle the puck over the line.

Ryan Reath made many sensational saves to keep the Lakers off the board through two frames but the continued offensive pressure by the visitors finally broke through in the third as Shallow Lake tallied three unanswered goals for a 3-2 win.

The defensive tandems of  Jacob Hodder/Ryan Jurgens and Malcolm Long/Finn Molenhuis played cohesively all night and controlled both ends of the rink for lengthy portions of the game.

Hudson Ireland and Spencer Henhoeffer played well along the boards and contributed to strong transitions throughout the evening while Noah Hiemstra and Avery Spencer blocked shots and tied up some tough Lakers forwards to thwart their attack.

Listowel will look to even its record with a 6:00 pm match in Mitchell on Sunday.
