Cyclones Stuck in Storm Surge
The Listowel U13-AE Cylones were handed a 6-1 loss by the Saugeen Shores Storm in Southampton on Saturday.

The Storm took a 2-0 lead through the first period as they scored goals on back-to-back shifts around the six-minute mark.

Listowel cut the deficit in half in the second frame as Hudson Ireland worked a puck low and Nehemiah Dyck forced a loose puck into the back of the net.

That was all the offense would muster however, as forwards Avery Spencer, Noah Hiemstra, Liam Ough and Owen Alexander were caught chasing for a large portion of the game before settling down and competing with some better spacing and passing in the third.

Goaltender Austin Frey had one of his best efforts for the AE squad as he thwarted several breakaways. However, Saugeen Shores tallied two goals in each of the second and third periods to cap the scoring as they used their power plays to add momentum and generate additional scoring chances.

The defensive unit was led by the strength of Ryan Jurgens as he played solidly in front of his own net and made crisp outlet passes. Spencer Henhoeffer, Finn Molenhuis and Malcolm Long skated well on the bluelines and showed best in the final five minutes of the contest as they put their passing game to work.

The crew hopes to have Jacob Hodder (Leafsfan Overwhelmeditis) back in the very near future.

Their next chance at getting in the win column comes during next weekend's tournament, beginning with a Friday fiesta in Stratford at 10:45 am, followed by a pair of games on Saturday at 9:00 am and 6:45 pm in Mitchell.
