U9 - T1, U9, 2022-2023 (Listowel Minor Hockey Association)

The young Cyclones played their 11th game in the last 13 days, a lot of which were with a short bench, and were able to pick up a 5-3 win over the Mitchell Meteors.

The U9T1 Cycs travelled to Mt Forest on Friday and Saturday to play in a year end tournament.  The finished with a record of 1 win and 2 losses which was good enough to see them play in the B final on Saturday afternoon where they lost 2-1 in overtime to the host Rams.

The young Cycs played from behind the entire game vs the Central Perth Predators and although they tied it twice couldn't close the gap in the end falling 5-4 on home ice.  The road team got on the board early less than two minutes into the contest but the Cycs responded a few minutes later when Ian Magee found Maddox Birk in the slot and he made no mistake with a rocket top shelf.  The Preds would find the net late in the first but again the Cycs would respond on a face off win by Birk and shot by Magee.  At the end of the first period, the score was knotted at 2.

A tired group headed to Clinton on Monday night to play the league leading Mid Huron Huskies.  Goalie Sully Meulensteen was at the top of his game in this one as the Cycs were badly outplayed in the opening period and for most of the 2nd frame.  If not for his play in net the score could have been at double digits for the home team but instead was only 4-0 after two.  The lone bright spot for the Cycs was a power play goal in the third when Maddox Birk took a faceoff win by Ian Magee and drilled it past the Huskies goaltender.   The boys are back in action tonight vs the Central Perth ...

The boys travelled to Ayr on the weekend to compete in the U9 Tier 1 International Silverstick and would do so with only 8 skaters.  The heart and effort each player showed was commented on by opposing coaches and fans as the group fought hard coming away with a win and two losses.
